US Wind is celebrating a significant milestone with the release of the final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for its proposed offshore project near Maryland.

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) published the EIS on Monday, marking a key advancement in the project, according to the developer.

The project aims to install up to 114 turbines, four offshore substation platforms, a meteorological tower, and four corridors for offshore export cables, which will come ashore in Delaware Seashore State Park. The initiative is planned to unfold in three phases, with two, MarWin and Momentum Wind, already receiving offshore renewable energy certificates from the State of Maryland.

"We commend BOEM for their detailed and exhaustive review of our federal permit application," stated US Wind CEO Jeff Grybowski. "We are now closer to obtaining all our federal permits by year’s end and eagerly anticipate commencing construction."

If approved, the project's capacity will range between 1.1GW and 2.2GW.

The next step involves BOEM issuing its Record of Decision on US Wind's construction and operations plan, expected in September.

BOEM conducted three public scoping meetings in June 2022 to gather input on the environmental review process and held two in-person and two virtual public meetings in October 2023 to receive feedback on a draft of the EIS from Tribal Nations, local communities, commercial fishing stakeholders, and other ocean users.
