IBERDROLA WINS APPROVAL FOR 'WINDANKER'

Construction of Iberdrola’s 315MW Windanker Offshore Wind project in the Baltic Sea has been approved by German Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH).

Iberdrola are a world leader in renewables based in Germany who have a total of 44,148MW of clean energy in operation. Their mission to strengthen the Baltic Hub through the joint investment of around €3.5BN contributes to their wider goals of €15.5BN being allocated to predominately offshore wind in the US, UK, France and Germany.

Windanker Offshore Wind Farm will be made up of 21 Siemens turbines, located in German waters of the Baltic Sea, once installed will reach an installed capacity of 315M.  The majority of the renewable electricity generated from the project will be traded through long term PPA’s on the German market. This will be The Iberdrola Group’s third project in the Baltic, strengthening the Baltic Hub to more than 1,100MW of installed capacity.

Van Oord have also been named as the company who will undertake the transport and installation of the monopile foundations and interconnecting cables, whilst Havfarm have been awarded the contract for the installation of the wind turbines.

Germany have set goals of 20,000MW of offshore wind capacity by 2030, with this €1BN investment, and yet again this is another great contribution from Iberdrola to achieving these plans.

If you are looking for your next role, or are interested in new opportunities across projects in the Baltic Sea, please reach out to a member of the Offshore Wind team on hello@lsprenewables.com
