MENTAL HEALTH WEEK - 5 WAYS TO WELLBEING PILLARS

LSP News

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week and this year’s theme is nature.

Our day to day work means we interact with our clients and candidates who are all working within the renewable energy industry to help improve our planet and nature however with this type of work which can be on a rotation away from home for periods of time or relocating to countries overseas for example, it is more important than ever to remember the 5 ways to wellbeing pillars:

Connect

Be Active

Take Notice

Keep Learning

Give

Connect
Luckily, we live in the age of facetime and video calls meaning its easier than ever to visually connect with family, friends and loved one so don’t delay, if you’re feeling a bit down in the dumps pick up that device and give them a call, not only will your mental health be boosted but more than likely theirs will be too!

Be Active
Exercise is proven to boost mental health by releasing your bodies natural endorphins.  Research indicates that modest amounts of exercise can make a real difference. No matter your age or fitness level, you can learn to use exercise as a powerful tool to deal with mental health problems, improve your energy and outlook, and get more out of life. So if you’re at a desk, get up and go for a walk…

Take Notice
Taking notice of the world around you can help you be in the moment. Noticing the beautiful sunset, local cultures, or smells around you can help you be more present in the moment with your feelings and environment enabling you to reflect on experiences to help appreciate what actually matters in life.

Keep Learning
Learning something new is good for you, the challenge of learning new things can give a sense of achievement so whether it be a course to help improve your skillset or a new hobby or craft, go get learning!

Give
Back to the endorphins again… Giving gives our brain a sense of wellbeing, this doesn’t mean you have to start donating to lots of charities (although you can if you want to!) but even giving your time, is there someone you work with who might appreciate a chat, some help or simply just some company.?

There are a huge amount of resources for mental health wellbeing online and in particular mentalhealth-uk.org. The charity have teamed up with Paul Cummins MBE, on a campaign to spring into action. Paul has donated an illustration of a tulip which you can download, colour in and stick in your window or on your wall as a symbol of mental health awareness. DOWNLOAD HERE
