OCEAN WINDS EXTENDS PARTNERSHIP WITH PRINCIPLE POWER FOR PIONEERING FLOATING OFFSHORE WINDFARM
Industry NewsSource - reNews - Principle wins O&M extension at WindFloat
Ocean Winds has renewed its long-term Operations & Maintenance (O&M) partnership with Principle Power for the 25MW WindFloat Atlantic Project.
This contract extension underscores the operational success of the world’s first semi-submersible floating wind farm and the first floating wind project to secure bank financing, the companies confirmed.
Since the installation of the first WindFloat unit in 2019, Principle Power has been delivering O&M services to Ocean Winds, which manages WindFloat Atlantic on behalf of the project consortium.
Principle Power’s responsibilities include Inspections, Maintenance, and Repair (IMR) activities, supported by integrated engineering services to ensure optimal uptime and availability. They also provide remote monitoring and data analytics to track and enhance project performance.
Thanks to this close collaboration, WindFloat Atlantic has consistently outperformed its initial energy production targets in its first five years of operation.
The project has also demonstrated remarkable resilience under extreme weather conditions, withstanding 20-meter waves and wind speeds of 139 km/h without any structural damage, the partners noted.
Ocean Winds and Principle Power have worked together to maintain a robust health and safety framework across all platform operations, achieving an impeccable safety record with zero lost time accidents.
Daniel Ribeiro, Asset Senior Lead Associate at Ocean Winds, commented:
“At Ocean Winds, we’re delighted to extend our long-term partnership with Principle Power. Together with the WindFloat Atlantic team, Principle Power enables us to deliver exceptional operational performance, prioritising safety and consistently exceeding production expectations. This success highlights the readiness of floating wind technology for commercial-scale deployment.”
Clara de Moura Santos, Vice-President of O&M at Principle Power, added:
“The renewal of this contract is a testament to the maturity of our WindFloat technology and showcases Principle Power’s expertise in designing and operating floating foundations.”
