Vattenfall has inaugurated the Vesterhav Nord and Vesterhav Syd offshore wind farms, located off the coast of Denmark.
The official inauguration was attended by Denmark's Minister of Environment, Magnus Heunicke, along with Helene Bistrom, Vattenfall’s Head of Wind, and Anne Mette Traberg, Vattenfall Denmark’s Country Manager. Together, they celebrated the launch of the two wind farms, which have a combined capacity of 344MW.
Vesterhav Syd has an installed capacity of 168MW, while Vesterhav Nord contributes 176MW. These two almost identical wind farms consist of 41 turbines in total, each with a capacity of 8.4MW.
The wind farms are located entirely within Danish waters, positioned between 5.5km and 10km from the shore.
Bistrom said: “We are excited to welcome Vesterhav Nord and Vesterhav Syd to our offshore wind portfolio. By investing in additional offshore capacity, we’re making a tangible impact on Denmark’s energy independence while benefiting the local community.
“The Vesterhav projects will also help balancing the Danish electricity system as a whole.
“These new wind farms reinforce our commitment to delivering fossil-free energy and driving the transition towards a fossil-free future."
Traberg added: “The opening of these two wind farms strengthens Vattenfall’s presence in Denmark, bringing our total offshore wind capacity to 1.5GW.
“This reflects our ongoing commitment to the offshore wind industry in Denmark and across Europe.
“Vesterhav Nord and Vesterhav Syd are also making a positive difference in the local community by creating jobs and supporting the regional economy.
“We are very pleased with what we have accomplished, together with our suppliers and the regional government.”
Operations and maintenance for the wind farms will be managed from Vattenfall’s service facility at Hvide Sande Port.
