The Senior Engineer, Cables will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality cable systems for our clients Offshore wind projects. This position offers a unique chance to contribute to the development of sustainable energy solutions while ensuring projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget. The role involves managing cable design, certification, supply, and testing/termination works, with a focus on minimising the levelised cost of energy (LCOE) of the assets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and engineering of cable systems, from preliminary conceptual design to detailed design.
- Collaborate with the Procurement team to select and manage Engineering/Technical Consultants and Suppliers.
- Liaise with the Site Investigation team to review site data and define site investigation requirements.
- Interface with engineering and construction teams to ensure seamless integration of project components.
- Identify technical risks and propose mitigating measures.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental (HSE) requirements in engineering and contracts.
- Prepare cable supply CAPEX and schedule inputs.
- Engage with external consultants/contractors to ensure knowledge transfer and completion of services.
- Manage contractor relationships and monitor progress to ensure timely and budget-compliant delivery.
- Provide technical guidance and support to the Cables Package Manager.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Extensive experience in offshore wind cable systems, including design, manufacturing, construction, and operations.
- Proficiency in cable engineering, including design and sizing optimisation, qualification and testing, and CPS design and testing.
- Knowledge of cable system manufacturing and quality control.
- Proven record in QHSE, with experience in health, safety, and environmental aspects of cable manufacturing and delivery.
Skills and Competencies:
- Detailed knowledge of relevant codes and standards related to cable and CPS design and testing.
- Competency in Finite Element Modelling (FEM) for thermal rating of cables.
- Proficiency in analytical tools such as Python, MATLAB, and Excel.
- Strong problem-solving skills and experience in conducting route cause analysis.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence key project and business decisions.
- Proficiency in report writing and presentation skills.
- Ability to manage and prioritise multiple ongoing projects under pressure and tight deadlines.
