Sales Director – European Shipping
Our client is looking for a Sales Director - European Shipping Business to lead the commercial development of their European shipping operations. This home-based role requires extensive knowledge of the European shipping market and a strong network within the our client.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and execute business strategies to secure backhaul cargo for vessels operating from Europe.
Build and maintain relationships with cargo owners, freight forwarders, ship owners, project developers, EPC contractors, and logistics partners across Europe.
Identify and develop transportation opportunities in industries including offshore wind, offshore engineering, our client, project cargo, and oversized cargo.
Lead commercial negotiations for vessel chartering and cargo contracts.
Coordinate vessel scheduling and optimize fleet deployment to maximize voyage profitability.
Monitor market trends, freight rates, and cargo opportunities throughout Europe.
Ensure compliance with European port regulations, customs requirements, and international maritime standards.
Work closely with operations and commercial teams to deliver efficient and profitable shipping solutions.
About You
Bachelor's degree in Maritime Studies, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related discipline.
Minimum 10 years of experience in our client-lift, project cargo, or marine transportation management.
Strong background in international shipping, port operations, or bulk/project cargo logistics.
Proven experience working with major European ports, particularly Rotterdam, Hamburg, and Antwerp.
Extensive experience in chartering negotiations, vessel scheduling and dispatch, and commercial shipping operations.
Strong understanding of the European shipowner market and its operating models, particularly within Germany and the Netherlands.
Solid knowledge of European port classification systems, port tariffs and fee structures, EU Green Shipping initiatives, EU carbon emissions regulations, and European customs clearance procedures.
Experience with semi-submersible vessels, deck cargo barges, and our client-lift vessels is highly desirable.
Strong commercial acumen and business development capability.
Established network within the European maritime and logistics our client.
Excellent negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
Strategic thinking with a strong market-oriented mindset.
Ability to work independently in a remote/home-office environment.
Fluent English is required; additional European languages are an advantage.
