40MWH BATTERY STORAGE SITE ENTERS COMMERCIAL OPERATION PHASE!

Trina Storage and Clarke Energy have successfully completed the construction of 40MWh battery storage site in Newport.
The project that is now in operation, offers dynamic frequency response to balance fluctuations in electricity demand, also enabling wholesale market arbitrage to reduce the price of energy during off-peak periods.

Trina Storage acted as the supplier and integrator, with Clarke Energy being responsible for the engineering, procurement and construction work of ‘Field Newport’.

Tier-1 battery racks, power conversion systems (PCS) and advanced software and control systems are just some of the battery solutions that have been added to the site.
Field Newport is the third UK project that Trina Storage and Field have partnered on, as it follows on from Gerrards Cross that opened last July, a 20MWh site on the outskirts of London.
A fourth and final venture is expected to be commissioned by the end of the year, totalling 180MWh of storage capabilities delivered to the UK grid.

Head of Energy Storage at Trinasolar, Gabriel Buccini said: “Our collaboration with Field is driving the development of a more resilient national grid, with this latest site increasing the flexibility of energy supply in South Wales.
The opportunity to utilise Clarke Energy’s considerable project management expertise was invaluable, proving crucial to delivering this project within the expected timeline.
The facility’s opening underscores Trina Storage’s commitment to promoting innovative solutions that support the vital work of our partners and help move the UK towards a net-zero future.”

As the site enters into its commissioning phase, it is a huge contribution to the UK’s net-zero ambitions, with the potential to create a number of career opportunities to the rest of the industry.

If you are on the market for a new role in the battery-storage industry, or looking to transition, please reach out to our Onshore Renewables team for further information.
