Octopus Energy and Mingyang Partner to Accelerate UK Onshore Wind

Octopus Energy has announced a strategic partnership with global wind turbine manufacturer Mingyang Smart Energy, in a move set to accelerate the UK’s renewable energy rollout.

The collaboration will combine Octopus’s software and data platforms with Mingyang’s turbine technology to reduce project costs and strengthen cyber security. The deal was signed during the UK’s first Joint Economic and Trade Committee in seven years, reflecting growing international collaboration on clean energy.

Through its renewables arm, Octopus Energy Generation, the company plans to deploy Mingyang turbines to unlock up to 6GW of onshore wind capacity identified via its ‘Winder’ platform. Launched in 2022, Winder connects landowners and communities interested in hosting wind projects. To date, it has pinpointed sites with the potential to power nearly 5 million UK homes.

The initial focus is on onshore wind, with opportunities to expand the partnership into solar and energy storage in the future.

Octopus currently manages nearly 5GW of renewable assets worldwide, including 1.5GW of wind capacity. This new partnership positions the company to play an even greater role in delivering low-cost, secure, and sustainable energy for the UK market.

Our client is looking for an Onshore Wind Procurement Manager to lead sourcing and procurement activities for utility-scale onshore wind projects in Japan. This role will play a key part in supporting project development and execution, driving procurement strategies, managing supplier relationships, and leading commercial negotiations throughout the project lifecycle. Key Responsibilities Develop and execute procurement strategies for utility-scale onshore wind projects. Lead sourcing activities for wind turbines, balance of plant (BoP), and related services. Support wind turbine selection, technical evaluations, and project due diligence. Manage the full tendering process, including RFQ/RFP preparation, supplier prequalification, bid evaluation, and commercial assessment. Lead commercial negotiations and contract execution with OEMs, EPC contractors, and key suppliers. LSP's client are a large utility with a mulitple GW portfolio and are looking to recruit a Turbine Technician to support maintenance and servicing of WTG's and BOP. Key Qualifications Full GWOs and technical background. Spanset Trained / IRATA level 1 trained (required for for hub access) MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES • Carry out maintenance and servicing of wind turbines and balance of plan t, including servicing, reactive and proactive maintenance, inspections, modifications, retrofits and main component exchanges. • Work in a small team with minimal supervision. • Work proactively and flexibly to minimise failures and maximise the Energy Yield. • Utilise SCADA systems and other computer based systems to interrogate turbines, to reset faults, to instigate maintenance activities and build up a fault/failure history. • Be prepared to have a flexible approach to working hours around the weather and workload, to be on call outside normal working hours and flexible to travel potentially to other sites • Maintain maintenance records, electronic and paper, of all work performed on plant. • Proactively assist in all areas of site operations, working on projects, spares and other non-routine works. • Adhere to the Companies HSSE Management system • Proactively identify & take ownership of tasks or projects to improve safety, turbine performance or general working. ROLE REQUIREMENTS • Qualified to HNC, ONC or NVQ level in a related mechanical/electrical discipline • Proven wind turbine experience, Senvion experience advantageous. • Demonstrated advanced use of complex power tools such as hydraulic rams, inductive heaters and diagnostic tools (e.g. advance fluke meter functions) • A sound understanding of HSSE systems, to establish a safe work environment. • Self-motivated with a strong desire and commitment to performance • Experienced in mechanical, electrical, power electronics and hydraulic trouble shooting and maintenance activities. • Have a proven ability to troubleshoot on complex systems. • Competent slinger and banksman. • Ability to work effectively within a small team with minimal supervision. • Willingness to travel in some special cases to support other onshore sites • Full GWO training including Enhanced First Aid and Advanced Rescue • A full UK driving licence.
