Lead Protection & Design Engineer role (Chartered)

Our client is looking for a Lead Protection & Design Engineer (Chartered) to support the delivery of a major renewable energy project. This role offers the opportunity to work in a hybrid environment, with three days in the office each week, based at any company office around the UK. Key Responsibilities Provide technical leadership and direction for protection and control engineering across multiple projects. Define best practices, standards, and methodologies for substation protection and automation systems. Act as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders on grid protection strategies and emerging technologies. Oversee design, configuration, and implementation of advanced protection and control schemes for transmission substations. Ensure compliance with IEC, IEEE, and national grid standards while driving innovation in system design. Manage project budgets, timelines, and resource allocation for engineering teams. Mentor and develop junior engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement. Lead technical reviews and provide authoritative guidance on complex engineering challenges. Serve as the main technical interface for clients, regulators, and contractors. Support tendering processes with authoritative technical input and cost optimization strategies. Represent the organization in industry forums and contribute to shaping future standards. About You Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline; Chartered Engineer status is essential. Extensive experience in substation protection and control engineering (HV/EHV systems). Proven track record of leading engineering teams and delivering large-scale projects. Expertise in protection relays, SCADA systems, and communication protocols (IEC 61850, DNP3, etc.). Strong leadership, strategic thinking, and stakeholder management skills. Familiarity with power system analysis tools (such as ETAP, DIgSILENT, or similar). Our client is looking for an Electrical Engineer to support the delivery of a major renewable energy project focused on the design of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and Solar. This role is offered on an initial 6-month contract, with a high likelihood of extension. Key Responsibilities Develop electrical solutions from an early stage, defining infrastructure and equipment requirements. Work across interfaces between renewable assets and the 33 kV through to EHV connection infrastructure. Provide technical input across the full project lifecycle, from early development and design through to construction and handover. Undertake technical reviews of engineering outputs produced by consultants, contractors, and OEMs. Support the development of engineering standards, specifications, and ways of working. Contribute to the resolution of technical issues and provide pragmatic engineering guidance across projects. Promote a collaborative and delivery-focused culture within the engineering team. About You Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience. Chartered Engineer status (or working towards) is desirable. Demonstrable experience in the development and delivery of infrastructure or energy projects, ideally within solar PV or BESS. Our client is looking for a Weld Inspector to support the delivery of a major renewable energy project in Peterhead. Key Responsibilities Monitor fabricators Quality Assurance and Quality Control activities. Review approved Weld Procedure Specifications (WPS). Review Procedure Qualification Records (PQR). Review Welders Performance Qualifications records (WPQ). Provide Independent Welding and Fabrication support and advice. Review Fabrication Inspection and Test Plans and final fabrication pack. Conduct visual inspections of weld set up/weld quality and complete dimensional inspections as required. Review and endorse NDT reports in a timely manner. Prescribe and monitor weld repairs to code. Verify the application of NDT methods for inspection activities. Maintain a contemporaneous record of daily activities. About You PCN Welding Inspector Level 2 or equivalent qualification. Experience in monitoring Quality Assurance and Quality Control activities. Strong understanding of welding procedures and inspection standards. London & Site (East Midlands)

Our client is looking for a Cable Package Manager to support the delivery of a major renewable energy project. This role involves overseeing the management of a 21KM cable route, including the integration of three new substations and a 400kV connection. The position is hybrid, with responsibilities split between London and the East Midlands. Key Responsibilities Oversee the planning, execution, and completion of cable management projects. Coordinate with various stakeholders to ensure project milestones are met. Manage on-site activities in the East Midlands, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and resource plans. Conduct regular site inspections and audits to monitor progress and address any issues. Liaise with suppliers and contractors to ensure timely delivery of materials and services. Prepare and present project reports to senior management. Implement risk management strategies to mitigate potential project risks. About You Proven experience in cable management, preferably in an onshore environment, including HDD. Our client is looking for a Protection and Control Project Engineer to support the delivery of a major renewable energy project. This role is home-based with occasional office visits and is offered on a contract basis for an initial duration of 12 months. Key Responsibilities Provide protection and control engineering support across multiple projects by assessing and defining the technical scope requirements during development phases, before evaluating third-party detailed designs as the project moves into delivery, predominantly panel and scheme designs. Configure protection and control equipment according to the application and scheme requirement, including the calculation and preparation of protection settings. Candidates with experience in either scheme design or setting preparation are welcome to apply. Assess and adjudicate third-party contractor factory acceptance tests on protection and control equipment for new build and retrofit applications. Support multi-disciplinary project teams in identifying and managing engineering risks and identifying opportunities for the project to excel. About You A minimum of HNC level qualification in Electrical Engineering.
