 Our client is looking for a WTG Installation Manager to support the WTG package. The project is in the Development Phase with the aim to achieve all the necessary consents and complete the necessary surveys and engineering to enable the project to become operational before 2030. The position is an important role within an integrated JV project team.
 
Role
The WTG Installation Manager shall report to the Project Construction Manager and work closely with the WTG Package Manager, to support the review and implementation of FEED outcomes in the near term and to manage the offshore installation at execution stage. The installation of the WTGs shall involve safety critical operations. Consequently, the role requires a strong understanding of risk management processes (HAZID, HAZOP), and a clear understanding of safe ways of working, particularly for WTG technician operation, personnel transfer, and lifting operations. A collaborative approach with other technical, interface and project controls, HSE and quality roles, and the candidate shall demonstrate experience of working in a multi-discipline project environment. The successful candidate shall work towards agreed Project milestones, ensuring preparation and archiving of required documentation release and handover to O&M.
 
Main Responsibilities

  • The successful candidate shall have a track record in WTG installation operations. Preference shall be given to candidates with experience of offshore construction.
  • The candidate shall assist in the development and review of detailed schedules and methodology, with a priority for safe and efficient onshore and offshore operations. The Installation Manager shall review supplied procedures for the full installation life cycle, from pre-assembly to installation and commissioning, to ensure compatibility with the Project Employer’s Requirements, HSSE and quality requirements.
  • The candidate shall have extensive knowledge of JUVs, and associated capabilities and operational limits. The successful candidate shall also develop a philosophy for onshore site selection for pre-assembly, and shall be familiar with onshore assembly operations, crane requirements, laydown areas and temporary ground works, and loading in/out lifts.
  • The successful candidate shall be responsible for the effective contract management of the WTG installation scope, plus contract scopes for other vessels in support of the WTG installation campaign. Consequently, the candidate shall preferably have knowledge of standard contract forms such as FIDIC and BIMCO.
  • The candidate shall work closely with the vessel operator to facilitate effective interfaces for the transportation, handling and installation of the WTG components.

 
Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a marine or engineering specialism, and at least five years of project experience in onshore or offshore WTG construction projects, preferably with offshore construction experience at either a developer or marine contractor. Candidates without degree will also be considered with extensive demonstrable experience in WTG installation activities.
  • Experience in contract development and negotiation for offshore scopes, support tendering documentation preparation, and technically review responses.
  • Knowledge of health, safety and environmental legislation and best practice. Preference given to candidates with experience of CDM projects.
  • Candidates shall have knowledge of HSE legislation and audits, design and operational risk assessment processes, and method statement production and review.
  • Knowledge of marine operations including for JUV, vessel constraints, durations and limits, and associated quayside operations, load out and transportation to field.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes and standards.
  • Proactive and co-operative way of working.

 
Specific Competencies

  • Experience and knowledge in WTG pre-assembly and offshore methods.
  • Familiarity with calculation reports for rigging design for offshore lifts, seafastening and grillage.
  • Experience with construction programmes, durations of WTG installation activities, and familiarity with interfacing package schedules.
  • Working knowledge of the Wind Turbine Safety Rules, and familiarity with expectations for mechanical and electrical safety rules.
  • Familiarity with offshore weather downtime modelling
  • Proficient in basic Microsoft packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, outlook). Excellent organization skills with the ability to manage own workload, meet timescales and coordinate a number of external and internal stakeholders, sometimes under tight timescales.
  • Familiarity with construction document review, e.g. Lift Plans and RAMS review for all offshore installation vessel activities
  • Develop installation sequence with WTG PM and other packages to satisfy project milestones. Oversee the sequence at installation phase.
  • Ensure the Contractor conforms to their responsibilities under the CDM regulation and Project consents and licensing requirements.
  • Surveillance for and alerting to the WTG Package any WTG Installation risks.
  • Monitoring and evaluating the contactors compliance with documentation and with the Turbine Supply Agreement (TSA).

Offshore Phase:

  • Responsible for ensuring all the TSA critical recordings are taken during installation works offshore.
  • Weekly reporting to the WTG Package Manager on the installation activities
  • Coordination between offshore planned works and the marine coordination centre. Management, coordination and communication with the MWS.
  • Record lessons learned, including a summary of issues that arise during the operations along with recommendations for the future.
